When Facts Are Not On Your Side, Just Lie

Did you know that President Obama’s health care plan is “the first step in destroying the best health care system that the world has ever known”?

This is the opinion of Richard Shelby, Republican Senator from Alabama. Nicholas Kristoff, columnist for The New York Times, contradicted Shelby with the following facts:

The United States is tied with Kuwait and Chile for 31st place in life expectancy; this country is 37th in infant mortality (a child born in the United States is more than two times likely to die before age five than a child in Singapore); we are  34th in maternal mortality (an American woman is 11 times more likely to die in child birth than a woman in Ireland); the USA is last among developed countries in avoiding preventable deaths.
