Rewriting US History – Hypocrisy to the Highest
By Bill Jamieson | September 21st, 2010 | Category: Politics & Public Policy | No Comments »From Rudy Giuliani’s statement that there were no terrorist attacks on the US Homeland during the Bush presidency, to Republican leaders in the House and Senate rushing to find partisan advantage rather than solutions, Republicans are displaying their typical response to major national issues: create an alternative reality by recasting historical truth.
Not only did 9/11 take place on the Bush watch, but so did the shoe bomber’s attempt to blow up an airplane, and the anthrax attacks. The 9/11 attack happened eight months into the Bush presidency, and the Detroit terrorist attempt was 10 months into the Obama administration. But Bush and his Republican henchmen blamed the failures on the Clinton team, while Obama took full responsibility.
There was also a major difference in the leadership style: Bush huffed and puffed, and promised revenge. Obama took the time to assess exactly what happened, pinpoint the failures and find solutions. There are those who equate a loud voice and tough talk with leadership, but I prefer Obama’s focus on finding the facts before pointing fingers. Whether the issue is health care, the economy, terrorism or immigration, the Republican’s narrow interest is quite clear, and it has nothing to do with what is best for the nation: partisan advantage.
